A Moabitess, widow of Mahlon, who clave to Naomi: 'whither thou goest, I will go… thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God'; she gleaned in the field of Boaz, lay at his feet on the threshing floor and asked him to spread his skirt over her as near kinsman; Boaz redeemed and married her, and she bare Obed. 'All the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman.'
Counted from Scripture: 'In the days when the judges ruled' (Ruth 1:1); she was David's great-grandmother, and David began to reign at thirty c. 1010 BC. Scripture does not give her age.
