A Levite, son of Izhar, son of Kohath; with two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly he rose up against Moses and Aaron, saying, 'Ye take too much upon you'; Moses answered, 'Seek ye the priesthood also?'; the earth opened her mouth and they went down alive into the pit; yet the children of Korah died not.
Counted from Scripture: Numbers 16 comes after the spies (the second year after the Exodus) and before Kadesh in the fortieth year; Scripture does not date it more closely.
