How I did it
How I told a king he was the man: the LORD sent me. That's the first step. Not courage. A sending. The LORD sent Nathan unto David. I told him no accusation. I told him a story. Two men in one city: one rich, with exceeding many flocks and herds. One poor, with nothing save one little ewe lamb, which he bought and nourished up. It grew up with his children, ate of his own meat, drank of his own cup, lay in his bosom, was unto him as a daughter. Then a traveller came. The rich man spared his own flock and took the poor man's lamb. Step two: let the king judge it. His anger was greatly kindled. The man that hath done this thing shall surely die, he said. He shall restore the lamb fourfold. Step three is four words: Thou art the man. A king can argue with an accusation. He cannot argue with his own verdict. And the last step, the one people forget: after he said I have sinned against the LORD, I said, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.
Say the hard word.
