How I did it
How three hundred men put an army to flight: God cut my army first.
The LORD said the people with me were too many, lest Israel vaunt themselves against Him and say, Mine own hand hath saved me.
First cut: whosoever is fearful and afraid, let him return. Twenty and two thousand went home.
Ten thousand left. Second cut: at the water.
Those that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, were three hundred.
By the three hundred that lapped, He said, will I save you.
That night I went down with Phurah my servant to the host of Midian.
A man told his dream: a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host and smote a tent.
His fellow said, this is nothing else save the sword of Gideon. I worshipped, and returned.
Then the plan: three hundred men, three companies, a trumpet in every man's hand, empty pitchers, lamps within.
Look on me, and do likewise. We blew the trumpets, brake the pitchers, and cried, The sword of the LORD, and of Gideon.
Every man stood in his place round about the camp
