How I took Hebron at eighty-five: I asked for the hardest ground in the land. Step one: believe the report God gave, not the one the crowd gives. At forty I brought word as it was in mine heart. Ten men said giants. I said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. Step two: follow the LORD fully. The LORD Himself said it: my servant Caleb hath followed me fully. That word carried me through forty years I did not choose. Step three: stay strong. Forty and five years the LORD kept me alive. At eighty-five I stood before Joshua as strong as the day Moses sent me. Step four: ask. Now therefore give me this mountain, I said. If the LORD will be with me, I shall drive them out. Step five: go up. Joshua blessed me and gave me Hebron. I drove thence the three sons of Anak, Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai. Scripture doesn't say how the battle was fought. It says who kept me alive.
